Dataset

Our data is publicly available on the Harvard Dataverse (.tsv and .dta files), and available for download below (.csv file). The dataset contains variables for the 51 countries in our sample, including:

  • The overall de jure score
  • The overall de facto score
  • Whether the country is a signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention, the 1967 Protocol, and the ICESCR
  • Access to and enforcement of work permits
  • Access to and enforcement of business permits
  • Freedom to travel domestically and choose residence
  • Availability of recourse for workplace violations
  • Access to primary, secondary, and tertiary education
  • Access to healthcare, official documents, formal financial services, and credential validation
